What a Bathroom Remodel Really Costs in the Colorado Springs Area
"How much does a bathroom remodel cost?" is the question I get more than any other, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you're changing. That's not a dodge. A refresh and a full gut are two different projects, and the price gap between them is huge. Here's how I think about it when a homeowner in Monument or Colorado Springs asks.
Start with the scope, not the number
Most bathroom projects fall into three buckets.
A cosmetic refresh. New paint, new fixtures, maybe a new vanity and mirror, keeping the existing layout and plumbing. This is the fastest and cheapest path, and honestly it's all a lot of bathrooms need.
A full remodel. New tile, new flooring, new vanity, new shower or tub, updated lighting, sometimes moving a fixture or two. This is the sweet spot for most of my clients and where the real transformation happens.
A layout change. Moving the shower, relocating plumbing, taking down a wall. Once you move water lines and drains, the cost climbs, because you're paying for labor and permits on top of finishes.
Figure out which bucket you're in first. The number follows the scope.
What actually drives the price
A few things move the needle more than anything else:
- Tile choice and how much of it. A simple floor is one thing. A floor-to-ceiling tiled shower with a niche and a bench is another. Tile is labor-heavy, so both the material and the square footage matter.
- The shower. A prefab surround is budget-friendly. A custom tiled shower with glass is a bigger investment, and it's usually the centerpiece people remember.
- Whether plumbing moves. Keeping fixtures where they are saves real money.
- Surprises behind the wall. In older Tri-Lakes homes we sometimes open a wall and find water damage or dated plumbing. I'd rather fix it than hide it, and a good quote leaves a little room for it.
Why Colorado adds a few wrinkles
Our climate earns a mention. Bathrooms are the most humid room in a dry-climate house, so ventilation and the right moisture-resistant materials matter more than people expect. Cutting corners on a fan or on waterproofing is how you end up with problems a year later. I build for our conditions the first time.
How I keep it predictable
I quote in person, walk the space, and lay out where the money is going before any demo starts. You'll know what's driving the price and where you can flex if the budget's tight. Bathrooms are one of the best returns you can get on a home, both in daily use and at resale, so it's worth doing right. You can see the kind of work we do on the Colorado Springs services page or your own town's page.

Ballpark ranges online won't tell you much, because they don't know your bathroom. I will. Show me the space, tell me what you're picturing, and I'll give you a clear, honest quote. Reach out for a free estimate and let's plan it out.
